The Xetum Kendrick
Today California-based Xetum announced its latest timepiece, the Kendrick, and we have an exclusive first hands-on look for you. While Xetum's previous two models, the Tyndall and Stinson, are both aviation inspired, the Kendrick takes its cues from the automotive world.
Xetum, as longtime HODINKEE readers may already know, designs its replica watches in California but has them built in Switzerland. They have a distinctly modern feel, are extremely robust, and are (mostly) priced at under $1,000, making them one of the more accessible quality options out there.
Robust Case and Hexagonal Screw-Down Crown
The Kendrick is built on the same architecture as both the Tyndall and Stinson. An ETA 2824 movement, with 38 hour power reserve, beats away inside the solid 40mm stainless steel case. The case features integrated lugs, a sapphire caseback window, and a hexagonal screw-down crown, and it's very comfortable for a case that sits so high on the wrist.
Automotive Inspired Dial
What sets the Kendrick apart are the new dial and strap designs. The new dial is inspired by automobile dashboard instruments, using bold numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12 accompanies by both dashes and pips in between. Broad, contrasting hands (with superluminova) make for easy reading, as does the colored seconds hand. The date window is subtle at 3 o'clock, so it's there when you need it but unobtrusive when you don't. The black and white dial combinations are definitely the more expected options, while the teal-on-black is something totally unique.
Teal, White, and Black Color Options
While the Tyndall and Stinson were both available on cork-lined leather straps and steel bracelets, the Kendrick adds bright nylon straps as well as black rubber straps to the mix. As we head into spring and summer, these are great options, whether or not you're taking your Kendrick with you to the beach. Both are comfortable and the deployant clasp is a nice touch on the rubber strap. If you're already a Tyndall or Stinson owner, you'll be able to add either of these new options to your existing fake watch no problem.
Prices on the Kendrick are $995 across the board, regardless of dial color and strap choice. You can find them on Xetum's website and they are expected to ship immediately.
